Secure a hacked or compromised account

If you got an alert you didn't expect, or something on your account isn't yours, do these now.

  1. Open Security and choose “Sign out everywhere else”. This ends sessions on FollowSomeone, MessageSomeone, ResearchSomeone and the SOMEONE sign-in page. Security
  2. Remove any passkey you don't recognize. Security
  3. Check the email address on your account. If it isn't yours, change it back. Security
  4. Secure your email account too: change its password and turn on two-step verification. Whoever controls that inbox can recover your Someone account.
  5. Add a fresh passkey on a device you trust, then review recent posts and messages and delete anything you didn't write. Add a passkey
  6. Locked out? Use account recovery with your email. After a recovery, email changes pause for 24 hours (72 for admins and creators with payouts) so an intruder can't lock you out again. Lost your passkey or device

Support staff can never add a passkey, change your email or sign you in. Anyone who offers to do that for you is not from Someone.
